The Wedding Nightmare
Kenneth McIntosh, 63, was in the adjoining room to the couple in the Hunday Manor Hotel near Workington, where the wedding was held on July 15 last year. Both he and his daughter Angela had had several rows with her boyfriend, Paul Martin, throughout the day, mostly because of his excessive drinking, prosecutor Gerard Rogerson told Carlisle Crown Court.
Martin had gone to bed early after the wedding, but had pestered his girlfriend with phone calls while she was still downstairs. And before McIntosh went to bed soon after midnight he went with his daughter into her room, to check that Martin was in “a placid mood”.
They found that Martin was asleep, but the room had been “trashed”, with the washbasin broken and Ms McIntosh’s possessions strewn around on the floor. McIntosh returned to his own room, but a few minutes later heard the young couple arguing. So he went next door with a bottle of water and accused Martin of hitting his daughter, Mr Roberson said.
